We are called to be like Christ. That is why we are called Christians. Christian means little Christ. We are called to Love the Lord our God first with all our heart, all our soul, all our mind and all our strength first and second to love our neighbor as ourselves. Basically treat everyone around you better than yourself. The greatest gift we can give is our time to others. Whether it's just helping a neighbor clean up their yard or shovel their driveway. It really doesn't matter the quantity as much as the quality. Don't give $10 to someone who doesn't need it, give it to the guy on the street or a non-profit that needs all the help you can get.
Religion is basically when we put more stock into following traditions or people instead of Jesus. I love when Pastor Eric says that we should all stop playing church and be the church and "it's always just about Jesus".
Get involved in something even if it's one a month I guarantee you will start looking forward to it. Find something that you love to do. Helping kids or battered women or just helping out in your community. Helping people should not be a task it should be voluntary and loving. Jesus always went to people that needed help.
We are here to help each other not hurt each other. Follow Jesus' example and help those that need it most. Get the guy with the drinking problem some recovery. Jesus loved people and was not afraid to be a servant, and so we should not be either. Help others instead of sitting on some sort of religious pedestal looking down on people. We are all people no one is better than anyone else. We are a nation of much and we should be helping those with little.
When I go to heaven I want to Lord to say to me well done good and faithful servant. That is what I will work towards everyday in every aspect of my life. I will do what ever I can to help people less fortunate than I and try to help save as many lost and broken people as I can.
